Do You Have Unpaid Violations With The Illinois Tollway?

by | Sep 3, 2021 | Firm News, in Traffic Violations, Traffic Violations |

Our firm receives dozens of calls each month about Illinois Tollway Violations.  Because of that, we want to provide some background about recent issues with the Tollway that may help answer common questions.

First, after the onset of COVID 19 in March of 2020, the Illinois Tollway suspended cash payment for tolls which frustrated numerous motorists.  This resulted in thousands of violations being issued to drivers who were not already using the I-Pass system.  In February of this year, they announced that they were permanently eliminating cash payments for tolls.  Because of this, it is recommended to use an I-Pass account with a working transponder, enter the license plates of all your vehicles correctly on your I-Pass account, and use the auto replenishment feature with a valid credit card.

Second, in order to help deal with violations prior to COVID the Illinois Tollway initiated the “Tolling 2020” reform program which affected notices prior to March 9, 2020 (that included fines of up to $70 per toll).  Those fines were automatically reduced to $3 per toll.  Payment of the reduced amount was supposed to be suspended in June of 2021, but according to the Illinois Tollway’s website, payment can be made online through September 3, 2021.

If you missed that window of opportunity and you have more than $1,000 of tollway fines, contact us today.  We have worked with many individual motorists and trucking companies to successfully resolve issues with the Illinois Tollway.
